May 18: Spring Scramble 2013
Lace up those sneakers and run for not only your health, but to help the Children’s Center for Weight Management. The UAB Pediatrics Residency Program, through their Community, Outreach and Advocacy Program (Coat of Arms), hosts the 7th Annual Spring Scramble 5K.

May 18: Do Dah Day
This Saturday spend time with your family and friends at one of Birmingham’s oldest events! The Do Dah Day was first started in 1979 by a small group of friends. Today it’s one of the city’s most cherished springtime events raising money for a variety of animal organizations such as the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and the Friends of Cats and Dogs Foundation. This event is the perfect excuse to bring your favorite pooch and enjoy an afternoon of live music, food and drinks, kids activities and even a parade full of puppies!

May 19: Wonderful Wetlands Hike
Celebrate American Wetlands Month by exploring Ruffner’s wetlands! Venture over to the Ruffner Mountain Nature Center and spend the day observing life both in and out of the wetlands. Enjoy the local wildlife of green tree frogs, spotted newts and a variety of beautiful birds.

May 19: 22nd Annual Arty Party
Enjoy a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine and live art auction at the annual Arty Party, benefiting the Birmingham AIDS Outreach. This annual event will feature artist Carol Misner. There will also be cash bar and plenty of local, regional and national art to bid on during both silent and live auctions.

May 24-27: Memorial Day Weekend at The Zoo
Here’s a fantastic excuse to spend the day playing with some furry creatures. The Birmingham Zoo will celebrate Memorial Day weekend by offering all active, disabled and retired military personnel and their dependents the chance to enjoy free admission with proof of military I.D.
