AL.com and Tom Brander, a Birmigham real estate expert, reported this week on February's home sales in the metro area. According to MLS data the value of sales in Birmingham was up 18% last month when compared to February 2011, increasing to $136 million from $115 million during that span. The number of units sold since January 2012 was also up 18% last month.
This data is quite encouraging as we slip into Spring. New home sales have picked up while inventory continues to shrink, both of which are geneearly indications of a strong season to follow with rising home prices. This news follows last months data that showed January's sales reached $111.1 million, a 7.6% increase over January 2011.
